Can I add an ADU in Largo?
Yes, provided the property is outside the restricted flood zones. Largo allows one ADU per lot, with a maximum size of 800 square feet or half the living area of the main house, whichever is less. The owner must live on the property and sign a notarized affidavit committing to affordable rent. ADUs aren't permitted in the coastal high-hazard area or the 100-year flood zone.
What are Largo's rules for older lots?
If your lot was subdivided before 1983, Largo's residential infill standards may apply. They're found in Section 8.3.2 of the city's development code and account for properties laid out under older lot dimensions. We review those requirements before drawing up plans for an addition.
Does Largo still add up past repairs toward the 50% rule?
No. Largo's city commission removed the five-year look-back requirement in April 2025. A Florida state law that became effective in June 2025 also prohibits look-back periods statewide. That means the 50% calculation is based on each individual project rather than adding up earlier repairs.
